Our history

Since its foundation in 1979, K. SCHMIED AG has developed from a traditional freight forwarder into an established Swiss family business in the container trade. Even in the early years, individual containers were sold in connection with transport operations. However, this area has grown steadily for more than 10 years and is now the central focus of our company.

We have continuously developed our business with great passion and commitment, without losing sight of our roots in freight forwarding and logistics. Kurt Schmied had a significant influence on the company until the ripe old age of 80. His legacy and values live on in our daily activities.

 

Our corporate governance

Peter Schmied has been managing the company since 2018. With over 30 years of experience in freight forwarding and logistics, he has successfully initiated and expanded the transition to container trading. He is supported by Urs Schmied, member of the management board, who is responsible for container trading, supply chain management and finance.

The combination of container trading and transport expertise makes us a reliable partner for companies and private customers throughout Switzerland.

Our philosophy

Our aim is to offer reliable container solutions with a comprehensive service – from advice on sales or rental through to delivery and optional unloading.

Thanks to long-standing partnerships, we can supply almost all types of containers – from standard sea containers and storage containers to individually modified special containers. We also remain active in logistics and also offer international transportation, customs clearance, insurance and packaging.

What sets us apart is our combination of tradition, expertise and flexibility. We consistently adapt our services to the needs of our customers – whether it’s the purchase of a single container or complex projects.

CONTAINERS:

We offer a wide range of sea containers for sale or rental – reliable, transparent and deliverable throughout Switzerland:

  • New containers in all sizes (10’, 20’, 40’, 45’) – directly from a Swiss terminal or imported on request.

  • Used containers in the common sizes 20’ and 40’ – in inspected quality, available in two condition grades.

  • Wide variety of container types: Standard, High Cube, Double Door, Open Top, Side Door, Flat Rack and more.

  • Storage containers & special solutions: quickly available, also suitable for private use.

  • Custom modifications: repainting, lettering, cut-outs, ramps, doors or special conversions.

  • Flexible delivery throughout Switzerland & Liechtenstein – optionally incl. crane unloading (small or large crane, depending on the site).

TRANSPORT & LOGISTICS:

In addition to our core business of container trading, we offer proven transport and logistics solutions for business customers. With decades of forwarding experience, we organise international shipments of commercial goods – reliable, efficient and customer-focused.
